Natural Wood-Fired Hot Spring | British Columbia

Inspired by the experience of soaking in remote mountain hot springs, this custom wood-fired bathing pool was designed to blend seamlessly into the surrounding landscape and create a more natural alternative to a conventional hot tub.

Constructed among massive natural boulders, the feature was carefully shaped to feel as though it had been discovered rather than built. The stonework surrounds the bathing area, creating the sensation of soaking in a secluded natural hot spring tucked into the mountainside.

Water is heated using a traditional wood-fired pool heater, allowing the experience to remain closely connected to the rhythms of nature. The crackle of a wood fire, the warmth of the water, and the surrounding stone combine to create a simple and authentic outdoor bathing experience.

Drawing inspiration from natural swimming ponds and wilderness hot springs, this project demonstrates how water, stone, and thoughtful design can transform even a modest footprint into a memorable destination within the landscape.

The result is a unique retreat that encourages slowing down, reconnecting with nature, and enjoying the timeless ritual of bathing outdoors.
